WIRED Alum Personal Story

#Thanks2BESTRobotics and #WIREDRobotics, I have garnered the skills necessary to pursue my passions! Hard work, diligence, and zeal are difficult characteristics to learn; hard work, diligence, and zeal have to be earned. BEST Robotics gave me the opportunity to earn these characteristics through its robotics competition. Each year in my BEST participation, my team and I would encounter a game-changing problem, one that could not be solved in a few seconds or a minute. Particularly, in my time at WIRED, I recall a time when the Engineering Notebook was not nearly complete even two days before submission! BEST Robotics proposed a challenge; WIRED Robotics proposed a challenge. I could either give up and quit right there on the spot, or I could stay a bit later, work a little harder and finish the job at hand. BEST Robotics and WIRED Robotics gave me the platform to earn hard work and diligence. In the end, my tired team and I stayed to finish what we started, and follow through with our commitments.

In addition to this, BEST Robotics has solidified my future career passions. After participating in WIRED, I embraced my passions for service, marketing, and public speaking. While I have never been a robotics-minded person, I was overjoyed to contribute to the Engineering Notebook, Display Booth, and Presentation Team. It was in these subsystems where I uncovered my true passions. I found my comfort zone in writing research papers in the Notebook, in organizing the pictures in the Booth, and in speaking about the educational BEST program in the presentation. Now, as a senior in high school, I plan to pursue an undergraduate major in Public Policy, and later a Juris Doctorate degree. Law has become my future career path because of the skills that I uncovered through my time at WIRED. I cannot wait to take the writing skills that I once learned when writing the Engineering Notebook and apply them to writing my own court cases. I cannot wait to take the organizational and decorative skills that I learned from the Booth and apply them to creating visual aids that display incriminating evidence. I cannot wait to take the public speaking skills that I learned through BEST presentations and apply them to owning the courtroom with confidence. I simply cannot wait.

Thank you, BEST! Thank you, WIRED for giving me the platforms to earn hard work, diligence, and zeal. Thank you for shaping the person I am today.
